Our Story

In 2006, the International Astronomical Union (IAU), the official scientific body that defines planetary bodies in our Solar System and is the internationally recognized authority for naming celestial objects, removed Pluto from its list of planets.

This event has been called "the biggest astronomical event of our lifetimes." We decided we had to do something. Bring Pluto Back is a movement to bring awareness and encourage change to give Pluto its deserved recognition as a planet.

Why I Deserve to Be A Planet

Scientists have demoted Pluto to a dwarf planet. How could they? If you’re still dead set on calling Pluto one of the nine planets, here are the reasons why that’s perfectly reasonable.

1

Pluto fits most of the requirements to be a planet. Pluto is round. Pluto orbits the sun. (Hey, it has a little too much debris because it is so far away from the sun. So let’s cut Pluto some slack!)

2

Pluto has moons. It also has rocks and ice. It sounds pretty similar to Earth to me!

3

Nostalgia. The world needs a little bit of good news that will bring everyone together. Who wouldn’t want to celebrate the New Year by bringing back our favorite planet, Pluto?

Bring Back Pluto’s Mission/ Goal

To increase public awareness and support, to reclassify Pluto as a planet again. To rally people to petition the International Astronomical Union (IAU) to restore Pluto's planetary status, giving it its rightful place alongside Earth's seven other planets.
